Healing Sounds

Sound healing guide

Find your frequency

Each of the seven chakras is traditionally paired with a color, an element, a seed sound, a note of the crystal bowl scale and a Solfeggio frequency. Tap a point on the figure to explore it, listen to its tone and see the instruments tuned to it.

The seven chakras

Where it comes from

Chakra is Sanskrit for wheel. The seven-point model familiar in the West reached it largely through Sir John Woodroffe's 1919 translation of a 16th-century Sanskrit text; the rainbow colors and the pairing with notes and Solfeggio tones are later, modern layers.

How it is used

In sound-healing practice a session usually moves from the root to the crown, one point at a time, with one instrument family: crystal bowls by note, or tuning forks by frequency. The same point carries a different number in each chart, so practitioners keep to one chart per session.

The heart chakra, at the center of the chest, is the bridge between the lower and upper chakras in most traditions. It is associated with air, with compassion and connection, with the F note bowl and the 639 Hz Solfeggio tone (528 Hz in the many charts that move it here); many practitioners also use the 136.1 Hz OM fork here.

The eight forks of this set are named after ratios of consecutive Fibonacci numbers. Each fork is an interval against the 1/1 fork, not a fixed frequency we publish.

Questions about chakras and frequencies

How do I choose my frequency?

Start from the chakra or the intention you want to focus on in your meditation, then choose an instrument tuned to its note or frequency. Many practitioners work from the root (C, 396 Hz) up to the crown (B, 963 Hz), one chakra at a time.

What is the difference between a bowl note and a Solfeggio frequency?

Crystal singing bowls are tuned to the notes of the musical scale, C to B, one note per chakra. Solfeggio frequencies are a separate set of tones (174 to 963 Hz) used mostly with tuning forks. Both systems follow the same order, from the root to the crown.

Should I choose 432 Hz or 440 Hz?

Both are tuning references for the note A. 440 Hz is the modern concert pitch; 432 Hz is slightly lower and many sound-healing practitioners prefer its softer feel. When a bowl is offered in both tunings, you choose it on the product page, and you can compare them with the tuning switch on this page.

Do I need a full set?

No. A single fork or bowl is enough to begin with the chakra you want to focus on. A set of seven covers every chakra in order, which is how many practitioners structure a full session.
